Ethiopia Becomes New Hub for Russian Firm BitCluster’s Bitcoin Mining Expansion

              Content

Russian bitcoin mining solutions provider BitCluster is set to revolutionize the industry with its newest 120 MW data centre in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. Scheduled for launch in January 2024, this 30,000 square meter facility, adjacent to the Kilinto high-voltage substation, showcases the company’s commitment to leveraging renewable energy for crypto mining. With transformers currently being connected, the anticipation is high, according to RBC.

BitCluster’s approach is environmentally conscious, drawing power entirely from renewable sources. The primary source is the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Africa’s largest hydroelectric project boasting a 5.15 GW capacity. This strategic move ensures an uninterrupted electricity supply vital for crypto mining operations. The data centre’s 120MW capacity can support over 34,000 Antminer S21 200Th miners, contributing a significant 6.8 EH/s, or 1.2% of the total bitcoin network hash rate.
